Helicopter transfers to Méribel and Val Thorens: airports, flight times and landing sites

By Accrocar7 min read

Operators publish private helicopter routes to Méribel and Val Thorens from seven airports, in about 20 to 40 minutes; from the three Swiss ones, the operator confirms whether and where the flight can land. In Accrocar’s indicative winter 2026–2027 grid, the price to either resort is the same as to Courchevel from each airport: from €2,400 per helicopter from Annecy, €3,240 from Chambéry, €3,720 from Geneva or Grenoble. The real difference between the two resorts is where you land: Méribel has an altiport, while in Val Thorens operators publish transfers to a helipad in the resort, an authorised site confirmed by the operator for each flight.

Where do helicopters land in the 3 Vallées?

ResortLanding siteWhat to know
CourchevelCourchevel altiport, about 2,000 mOpen 9 a.m.–7 p.m. local time in winter, except by arrangement with the manager; no night flights; helicopter stands
MéribelMéribel altiport, about 1,700 mShort runway, not cleared of snow in winter; cramped helicopter parking, to be occupied only as long as necessary
Val ThorensA helipad in the resortNo altiport; the authorised site is confirmed by the operator for each flight

In every case the last part of the journey, to your chalet or hotel, is by car. French rules keep leisure passengers in the mountains to aerodromes: no landing at a chalet or on the slopes, and no heli-skiing.

What changes when you fly to Val Thorens?

Val Thorens, at the head of the Belleville valley, is the highest of the three resorts and has no altiport. Altitude matters on cloudy days: the valleys can be clear while the resort sits in cloud, or the other way round, so a flight that is possible to Courchevel may not be to Val Thorens at the same moment. Operators decide on the day and may offer a road transfer instead; the proposal sets out the weather terms.

Can you hop between the resorts?

Operators publish short hops, subject to their confirmation: about 8 minutes between Courchevel and Méribel and about 10 minutes between Méribel and Val Thorens. From Méribel or Val Thorens to Val d’Isère, Accrocar’s indicative price is from €2,040 per helicopter, about 15 minutes. These hops suit a day in another resort or a change of chalet mid-stay.

When is the 2026–2027 season?

  • Val Thorens: 21 November 2026 to 2 May 2027, the longest season of the three.
  • Méribel: 5 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
  • Courchevel: 4 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
  • The busiest arrival days are the Saturdays of the school holidays, when roads are full and helicopter slots are most in demand. Request as early as you can.

What else should you know before booking?

  • Helicopters fly in daylight and good visibility; when the forecast is poor, operators may offer a road transfer instead; the proposal sets out the weather terms.
  • Luggage space is limited and depends on the passengers’ weight; the operator confirms what can travel. See our guide to skis and luggage on a helicopter.
  • From Geneva, Sion or Gstaad, the flight crosses into France. The Courchevel altiport requires 24 hours’ notice for customs, and the Méribel altiport chart lists no customs service; the operator confirms whether and how the flight can be cleared, and where it can land.

The resorts of the region are presented on our French Alps helicopter page, and all departures from Geneva on our Geneva helicopter transfers page.
